Sigma Omicron Pi at the University of California, Santa Cruz began in the
Winter of 1995 when fifteen distinguished women gathered together and shared
a goal of establishing a sorority which emphasizes Asian American awareness.
Sigma Omicron Pi has established itself as a reputable organization through
its increase membership and activities that foster the goals of sisterhood
as well as community service. Most importantly, as we invite you to learn
more about our sorority, we hope that you are able to share in the love,
dedication, and the one thing we hold true to our hearts - SISTERHOOD.

For the past 75 years, Sigma Omicron Pi has been known for its commitment in
providing service to the community. The Zeta Chapter here at UC Santa Cruz,
has been participating in the Second Harvest Food Drive annually as well as
various other service events all around Northern California.

Sigma Omicron Pi not only promotes service to the community and academic
excellence, we also encourage our members to enjoy themselves. We have
various social functions which include parties, exchanges with other
sororities/fraternities, and formals. These events allow us to grow within
our sorority and with other organizations throughout Northern California.
Socials provide an opportunity to meet people from other campuses, expand
one's social network, and develop friendships that can last a lifetime.

The meaning of sisterhood brings warmth, trust, and loyalty within us.
Through thick and thin, we are comforted with the thought of having a sister
there for us. Sisterhood is something that one must experience herself and it
can not be defined by words. The experience of sisterhood does not end with
the pledge period but continues on throughout the good and bad times we all
share. As a sister of &Sigma&Omicron&Pi, you are never alone because there will always
be a sister standing right beside you.

History
The Sisterhood of Sigma Omicron Pi was founded in 1930 at San Francisco State University. After 70 years of sisterhood, it has established seven strong chapters dedicated to promoting Asian American awareness througout the bay area.

The Zeta Chapter of Sigma Omicron Pi was established at UC Santa Cruz in the Winter of 1995. Since then, our chapter has grown in active membership and our reputation has developed to become one of the most respectable organization on campus.

We continue to withhold the strong traditions of our sorority, bounded by objectives, unity, friendship, leadership, and service.
Sisterhood
Sisterhood means having a support system when you need it most and knowing that you can count on your sisters to be there in any situation. Sigma Omicron Pi provides this to each of its members as well as provided opportunities to develop life long friendships. Each members' unique quality contribute to the strength and diversity of the sorority.

Being part of Sigma Omicron Pi will give you a sense of unity and sisterhood bonded through education, philanthropy events, and social events such as movie nights, dinners, rock climbing, and our annual ski trip, all of which will enrich your college experience at UC Santa Cruz.
Leadership
The sisters of Sigma Omicron Pi define leadership as "taking the opportunities provided by the sorority to develop their interpersonal skills." Every year, the sisters strive to better themselves and the community by working with people of different interests and goals. Each academic year the sisters are elected into positions in which each are responsible for their assigned office.

Participation in various activies allows each sister to improve management, organization, and communication skills while working with others toward mutual goals.
Philanthropy
Philanthropy means to share our love and time with those in the community who may need our help and service. For the development of community awareness, Sigma Omicron Pi participates in activities to help non-profit organizations. Locally, Sigma Omicron Pi has brought onto this campus various events such as the annual Second Harvest Food Bank Food Drive which has helped many in the Santa Cruz community. We have volunteered for the Saint Francis Soup Kitchen and have thrown Halloween parties for the children of Santa Cruz. Outside of Santa Cruz, we have helped out at events such as the Cherry Blossom Festival and the Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco. In addition, we have recently adopted a child from Honduras. We are sending him a monthly donation to help his family.

Sigma Omicron Pi at UC Santa Cruz has participated in many events that has been beneficial to the Santa Cruz community and the Asian community as a whole.
